Course Curriculum
Module 1: Day 1 – Fundamentals & Introduction to eQUEST
- Understand the role of building energy modelling in sustainable design
- Identify key energy loads (cooling, heating, lighting, equipment, ventilation, occupancy)
- Explore the DOE‑2 engine and eQUEST interface
- Gather basic inputs – climate, location, orientation, envelope, schedules, HVAC assumptions
Module 2: Day 2 – Building a Baseline Model in eQUEST
- Create geometry and define thermal zones
- Model the building envelope – walls, roof, floor, glazing, shading
- Add internal loads – occupancy, lighting power density, plug and equipment loads
- Develop operating schedules for weekdays, weekends and unoccupied periods
Module 3: Day 3 – Efficiency Measures, Comparison & Reporting
- Identify passive and active energy‑efficiency measures
- Test improvements – insulation, high‑performance glazing, reduced lighting, optimized schedules, thermostat set‑points, HVAC upgrades
- Create baseline vs. improved model comparisons in eQUEST
- Run improved simulations and analyze savings
